Castaway Resort Koh Lipe makes a deliberate departure from an air-conditioned hotel room. The resort’s own accommodation information says it does not provide bedroom air conditioning, hot-water showers, televisions or mini-fridges. Fans and mosquito nets are part of the published setup. A stay on Sunrise Beach here should be chosen with those actual conditions in mind, rather than with an expectation that every island bungalow has conventional resort-room equipment.
The missing amenities are a stated concept
The official accommodation page separates what Castaway provides from what it does not. Fans in every bedroom, mosquito nets, hammocks and beach mats appear on the first list. Air conditioning and hot showers appear on the second. These are not simply faults reported by an unlucky guest, and the distinction should be settled before judging whether the accommodation fits the trip.
For someone comfortable with fan-cooled sleeping, the wooden-bungalow style can be the main reason to choose Castaway. For a traveller who relies on air conditioning to sleep, the same style is a practical limitation rather than an atmospheric benefit. A sea-facing photograph cannot establish that a room will feel cool enough for a particular person during their stay.
Beachfront and sea-view are not the same row
The resort identifies Beach Front Breezy bungalows as first-row accommodation and Sea View Breezy as a second-row choice. Its beachfront description presents the Breezy format as a two-storey, open-plan bungalow. That provides a specific basis for choosing a position and layout, instead of assuming that every bungalow in the garden has the same relationship with the beach.
The separate sea-view page cautions that there is no door between the downstairs bathroom and the upstairs bedroom. The resort explicitly notes that this may matter to friends sharing. This is more useful information than a generic claim that the bungalow is spacious: the privacy arrangement can be just as important as the floor area or view when two people are not travelling as a couple.

Guest reactions show why the concept must suit you
An Expedia guest account from April 2026 described the absence of air conditioning and the cool shower as part of the appeal of their stay, while also praising service and the ability to hire snorkelling equipment. A Trip.com guest from an August 2026 stay identified the lack of air conditioning and the cold shower as downsides, despite the provision of a fan.
Those reactions do not need to be forced into a single verdict. They show different travellers responding to the same disclosed feature. A second Trip.com account also remarked on the openness of the bathroom and toilet area. That aligns with the resort’s own layout warning, while remaining an individual reaction rather than proof that every bungalow is unsuitable for sharing.
The shared areas provide a different kind of convenience
The official amenities list places free Wi-Fi in the restaurant and bar area rather than promising it as a bedroom feature. It also says that breakfast is not included in its published room rates. This means a booking comparison with another resort’s breakfast-inclusive, in-room-connected package should account for the actual inclusions, rather than comparing a bungalow photograph with a conventional hotel room as if the products were identical.
Castaway is a beach-oriented bungalow stay, not a resort selected for a private pool or a long list of bedroom appliances. Its specific room rows and open-plan layouts are important parts of the experience. A traveller interested in a simpler base on Sunrise Beach can evaluate those features positively, while another traveller may reasonably decide that bedroom cooling and a more enclosed bathroom are essential.
The resort’s disclosures make that distinction unusually clear. Choose it because the published bungalow setup fits the people sharing it, not because the lack of equipment has been recast as a benefit everyone will enjoy. The guest evidence supports both the appeal and the limitation, and the difference between those responses is central to understanding this particular Lipe stay.
