Layana Resort & Spa makes the room’s relationship with the garden or pool more important than a simple beach-resort label. On Phra Ae, or Long Beach, this is an adults-only property whose published room descriptions distinguish a private garden terrace from an upper balcony and a suite with direct Wellness Pool access. Those details help explain the stay more clearly than treating every Layana room as the same romantic retreat.
A garden terrace and an upper balcony are different choices
The resort’s accommodation catalogue lists the Deluxe Garden Pavilion at 49 square metres, with a private garden, outdoor seating and a day bed inside. Its Deluxe Pavilion is also listed at 49 square metres, but the outdoor space is a balcony rather than the same ground-level garden arrangement. The decision is therefore less about buying a dramatically larger room and more about which outdoor connection you expect to use.
For a couple who want to sit outside between beach visits, either format can make sense. The garden category puts the private outdoor area at the centre of that choice, while the balcony category offers another relationship with the landscaping. Neither description promises an ocean view. The useful comparison is between these actual categories, rather than assuming that a higher-sounding room label automatically moves the stay onto the beachfront.
The suite is a more substantial change
The 2026 resort factsheet describes the Terrace Suite as a split-level layout, with the lower level providing a private terrace and direct access to the Wellness Pool. That is a different proposition from simply having a garden balcony. A traveller who expects to alternate between a private sitting area and that pool has a specific reason to compare this category with the pavilions.
There are also Beach Villa and Ocean Deluxe Villa categories in the published inventory. Their existence should not be used to attach beachfront access or a particular sea outlook to every pavilion. The range is useful precisely because it offers different settings within one property. When comparing the higher categories, use the description of the exact villa rather than the general photographs shown for Layana as a whole.

The adults-only character has a clear audience
Layana’s current factsheet explicitly identifies the resort as adults-only. That makes it a direct option for adult travellers seeking a holiday without a family-resort programme, rather than a hotel that merely happens to receive many couples. It also removes it from a family shortlist with children; the quiet character should not be presented as a benefit that can be separated from the admission policy.
A September 2026 Expedia guest account praised the grounds and pools, the comfortable bed and a balcony overlooking the garden. Those observations fit the documented pavilion setting, but remain that traveller’s experience. A separate May 2026 Tripadvisor account connected the quieter atmosphere with the adults-only concept. Together they offer context for the intended style of stay without establishing identical service or sound conditions in every room.
A Long Beach base, rather than a pier hotel
The resort gives its address on Phra Ae Beach. This makes Layana a beach base for time on Lanta Yai, rather than a room chosen primarily to stand beside a passenger pier. Its location is relevant if the plan is to stay put for much of the holiday and make selected road or boat outings, with the exact pickup arranged around the actual resort.
Layana’s combination of a landscaped beachfront property and several distinct outdoor room settings is the reason to consider it. It is less convincing as a choice made solely for a generic island checklist. The pavilion versus suite comparison should follow the way you expect to spend an ordinary day here: garden privacy, a balcony pause, more direct pool access or a different villa setting. Those are identifiable differences, rather than an unsupported claim that every upgrade transforms the entire holiday.
